As we embrace the vibrant Year of the Horse, our Mini Mandarin Musicians have enjoyed fun activities centred around horses.
We sang “Old MACDONALD Had a Farm” and introduced the horses that Mr. Macdonald diligently cared for at his friend's stable.
We shared an engaging story about horse racing, accompanied by the lively music of "De Camptown Races" composed by Foster. Our nursery toddlers then listened to the captivating Erhu solo piece “War Horse Race” by the Chinese composer, Chen. They energetically “raced” Old Macdonald’s horses, some even using colourful scarves as cheerleaders. Moreover, we vividly portrayed horse riding by “whipping” our scarves and galloping around the space. The scene the children created was truly exhilarating!
In today's latest class, marking the first of January in the Lunar New Year, the children explored a story about the Monster “Nián” (which sounds like “Year” in Mandarin), who disturbed the villagers preparing for the new year. Suddenly, a mighty horse appeared, and some of our brave children mounted it to confront Nian. Other children played drums and cymbals with vigour to keep Nian at bay. They triumphed! We said “zài jiàn” (goodbye) to Nián the Monster. Well done, everyone!
We anticipate more exciting activities in class and wish you a prosperous new year, with all your wishes coming true!
